Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans em pacientes com Síndrome de Down: influência da condição periodontal e higiene bucal

Resumo

Pacientes com síndrome de Down apresentam graus variados de retardo metal, físico e motor e, aparentemente, são mais susceptíveis às patologias infecciosas. Desta forma, o presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a ocorrência de Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans na saliva e nos biofilmes supra e subgengival de crianças e adolescentes com Síndrome de Down e analisar a influência da dieta, fatores socioeconômicos e culturais e de condição periodontal. Após avaliação das condições sócio-econômicas coletaram-se os espécimes clínicos, os quais foram transportados para o laboratório de Microbiologia e Imunologia da FOA-UNESP para detecção do microrganismo por método molecular e as condições periodontais foram avaliadas segundo índice da Periodontal Screening and Recording. O grupo controle foi constituído por indivíduos que não apresentavam a síndrome. Os resultados foram submetidos ao teste de Qui-quadrado de Pearson para análise de proporções de variáveis com 3 ou mais categorias, ou o teste de Mann-Whitney. A análise dos dados desse estudo permitiu verificar que a ocorrência de A. actinomycetemcomitansvariou de 0,0% a 25,0%, tanto no grupo de pacientes portadores de síndrome de Down, quanto para os indivíduos do grupo controle e esta não foi afetada por características socioeconômicas da população alvo, tampouco pelas práticas de higiene oral.
