Abstract

Introduction: Salivary gland neoplasms represent some of the main causes of involvement of the stomatognathic system, being characterized by lesions exclusive to the oral region, found in the form of tumors. Tumors are uncommon lesions that, depending on the biological behavior, vary from benign to malignant lesions, affecting the major and minor salivary glands. Objective: To trace the clinical and histopathological profile of benign salivary gland neoplasms diagnosed in a reference service in the State of Amazonas over a period of 15 years. Materials and methods: Reports of patients who underwent biopsy were used as the study population, using elaborated record sheets as an aid for data collection, which were used for tabulation and data analysis. Results: The sample consisted of 35 patients diagnosed with benign salivary gland neoplasia. The parotid gland and the hard palate region were the most predisposed sites and the most prevalent benign lesion was the pleomorphic adenoma, mainly in women, in the third decade of life. Conclusion: The microscopic variety demonstrates the histopathological diversity of these lesions and are important for the knowledge of salivary gland neoplasms in the local population, in addition to serving as a basis for elaborating the diagnostic hypothesis in cases of suspected benign tumors, helping in the clinical management, treatment and patient prognosis.
