Abstract

Objective: to identify the aspects related to the oral health impact on the quality of drug addicts in a host institution in Maceió / AL - Brazil. Method: cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2012 to April 2013 with application of Clinical Interview Questionnaires, Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), Brazil Economic Classification and Caries Risk questionnaires. Data were submitted to the Epi Info version 3.5.3. Results: Fifty men aged (19 - 51 years old) were evaluated, mostly crack users, hospitalization precedence, low social class and with high caries risk. "Feeling ashamed because of problems in the teeth and mouth" (OHIP10) was the most affected aspect, however, no impact on the quality of life due to oral affections was observed. Conclusion: The results suggest that different factors cause distinct impacts in the domains of oral health related quality of life, generating a need for further detailed studies in this area.
