Introduction: Tooth eruption is a process by which teeth perform axial movements, from their developmental position of the gnathic bones to their functional positioning in the occlusal plane. Information about the timing and sequence of teething is valuable for analyzing growth and developmental progress in children. Objective: To carry out a literature review on the main clinical manifestations during deciduous tooth eruption. Methods: A bibliographic search was carried out in the PubMed/Medline, Scielo and Scopus databases, using previously selected descriptors. The research took place in 3 phases and the articles were included according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, with 28 studies being chosen for qualitative analysis. Results: During the process of tooth eruption, local signs and symptoms were observed, such as reddened and sensitive gums, swelling around the tooth, drooling, eruption cyst, finger sucking; and systemic such as fever, irritation, diarrhea and pruritus. In addition, it was found that the late eruption may be a consequence of some change in the baby's weight, in the form of feeding, or some systemic change. Conclusion: Dentists must be aware of the various clinical manifestations that occur during the eruption period of deciduous teeth, to ensure correct treatment and guidance to those responsible.
