Abstract

Introduction: Vascular malformations are common anomalies in the head and neck region and do not recede, being prone to progress or stop. Most of them are asymptomatic and can present themselves in different sizes, excessively large or almost imperceptible, they may vary depending on blood component present in its interior and complexity, which may be composed of arterial, venous, arteriovenous, or lymphatic blood; when the flow is slow, it is associated with a venous component and high flow with an arterial component. Objective: To present a clinical case of low-flow vascular malformation that appeared about 2 years ago, affecting the upper lip of a 32-year-old female Caucasian patient. Material and method: Sclerotherapy was performed with 5% monoethanolamine oleate as monotherapy and the patient was under clinical observation for 28 days to determine the need for a second sclerotherapy session. Result: After follow-up, the treatment showed a satisfactory result, the lesion had visibly regressed, and a second sclerotherapy session was not necessary. Conclusion: the use of sclerotherapy with 5% monoethanolamine oleate as monotherapy was efficient for the treatment of vascular malformation.
