Abstract

Introduction: The mesiodens is the supernumerary tooth located in the midline, between the two maxillary central incisors and corresponds to the most frequent dental anomaly in permanent dentition, with a prevalence of 0.9 to 2.5% in the world population. Objective: Report a clinical case of a patient with mesiodens in the maxillary region. Case report: A 10-year-old male patient attended the pediatric dentistry clinic of the School of Dentistry of the University of Pernambuco (FOP/UPE), with aesthetic complaint when speaking or smiling. Intra-oral examination observed the presence of mesiodens in the anterior region of the maxilla. The conduct was  extraction of the element, followed by forwarding of the patient to the department of orthodontics in order to return aesthetics to the patient. Conclusion: The diagnosis of mesiodens should be made as early as possible and its treatment should be performed in order to minimize, or even prevent, possible complications and aesthetic and functional disharmony that can be caused by its presence.
