Abstract

Introduction: It is the responsibility of the dentistry professional to instruct and encourage the patient in the correct hygiene of the prosthesis, in addition to guiding them to periodic visits to reinforce the hygiene of the prosthetic devices, avoiding pathologies that occur from the lack of hygiene and their maladaptation. Objective: The objective of this study is to carry out a literature review, presenting and comparing different hygiene protocols for complete dentures (PT) and removable partial dentures (PPR), in order to contribute and guide dental professionals regarding the choice of cleaning materials and methods more suitable, listing the main advantages and disadvantages of the same Material and Method: A search was carried out bibliographic data in MedLine, Scielo and Lilacs databases, between the months of August and November 2020, through the association of descriptors:“Dental prosthesis (Dental prosthesis)” AND “Oral Hygiene (Oral Hygiene) AND “Longevity (longevity). Results: Among the evaluated methods (mechanical, chemical and combined), the combined method proved to be the most complete for the hygiene of prostheses. The survey of detailed guidelines on hygiene and use of prostheses highlighted the importance of periodic monitoring to maintain the balance of the stomatognathic system, seeking a rehabilitation treatment that presents good clinical longevity. Conclusions: Given the above and within the limitations of this literature review study, it is possible to conclude that the association of the mechanical method with the chemical method is more efficient in the hygiene of the analyzed prostheses.
