Abstract

Synovial sheath giant cell tumors (GCT) are the second most common hand tumor type. They are prevalent in middle-aged women, and details about their recurrence rate remain unclear. The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of GCT and its recurrence regarding the involvement of the margins in the biopsies. Methods: a retrospective study evaluating 48 patients with GCT who underwent surgical treatment by excision. Results: 70% of these patients, 66% in the right upper limb, and recurrence rate of 8.3%, with a tendency (p=0.074) for affected margins. Conclusion: Despite the impairment of the margins being a factor that characterizes its recurrence, further studies are needed to determine other associated factors.
