Abstract

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus, when associated with deficient antiretroviral therapy or abandonment of the therapeutic regimen, is responsible for the development of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, a clinical picture of immunosuppression that predisposes the patient to the appearance of opportunistic infections. Human Papilloma Virus infection is one of the most common opportunistic infections and several risk factors may be associated with its prevalence, including smoking and alcoholism, which also contribute to the persistence of the infection and possible cancerization of the lesions caused by the virus. The objective of this work is to report the clinical case of a male patient, ex-togaber, ex-alcoholic, ex-drug user with late diagnosis of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and in the context of Immunodeficiency Syndrome Acquired, who had leukoplakia on the bilateral border of the tongue. It was necessary to completely remove the lesions and the histopathological analysis revealed characteristics of infection by the Human Papilloma Virus, in addition to atypical dysplasia with high viral replication and the possibility of malignancy.
