Abstract

Hair transplantation is an aesthetic procedure that has been gaining prominence and popularity in recent years, due to the great advances in surgical techniques, Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). Based on this, the research aimed to evaluate, through an updated literature review, the main advantages and protection of the two techniques, as well as their main applications and complications. Through four descriptors, the searches were carried out in the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NIH), PubMed Search and MEDLINE Search. After analyzing the content found and excluding materials that did not meet the subject of the study, in addition to theses, monographs and dissertations, nine articles were selected for the basis of the article. At the end of the proposed literature review, it was concluded that both the FUT and FUE techniques can be recommended to patients interested in undergoing hair transplantation, although each one has particularities that better suit certain patient profiles. According to a series of medical estimates, the complicating factor may indicate or contraindicate surgical techniques, commonly used to prevent cases of alopecia.
