Objective: To analyze the prevalence of generalized anxiety disorder in medical students. Bibliographic review: the graduation in medicine is an academic formation that demands a lot of dedication, time and study on the part of the students, but it is a charge that occurs in excess, both by the institution and the student himself, the lack of imposition of limits results in increased psychological and emotional pressure, workload and study overload, in addition to manifesting symptoms of anxiety that get worse over time. The risk factors for the development of these symptoms may be linked to some psychological condition that the individual went through in the past, or situations of continuous psychological stress, in addition to the interference of environmental factors. GAD is a pathology that is on the rise in academia, especially in medicine. Final considerations: The mental health of medical students is directly linked to the quality of life of these individuals and the quality of the academic training they present. In view of this, the urgent need for educational measures through institutions that make it possible to combat this pathology, linked to the commitment of the students themselves, is evident.
