Experience of a Terciary Hospital with the McCash Technique for the Treatment of Dupuytren

Background. Dupuytren's disease is characterized by a benign fibroproliferation of the palmar and digital fascia, which produces deformities and flexion contractures in the hands and fingers. Several therapeutic approaches are proposed to correct the deformity and restore hand function. This study's objective is to describe a third-level hospital's experience in managing Dupuytren's illness. Methods. A retrospective study analyzing 59 cases of Dupuytren's disease who underwent surgical treatment using the modified McCash open palm technique. The studio included 44 men and 15 women, with an average age of 66. Of these, 16 were diabetics, eight used neuroleptics, 29 were alcoholics, and 20 had a positive family history. The average duration of the disease at the time of diagnosis was 8.2 years. 55.9% had a bilateral illness. Results: a statistical difference was observed in the Tubiana stage for the 5th finger (Chi-Square Test p=0.060) and the recurrence variable (ANOVA p=0.036), and a higher rate of recurrence in the patients who presented bilaterality (Chi-Square Test Square of test p=0.047). Conclusion: McCash's technique has satisfactory results considering the variables studied and according to the literature.
