Abstract

The purpose in this study was to analyze the emotional factors acquired by dental students during the COVID-19 pandemic period and the influences related to the return to classroom activities. Observational, cross-sectional, and analytical research, carried out at a public university in the state of Pará. A proprietary survey questionnaire, validated by the Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Pará, was applied to the academic community for a period of 3 months (November 2020 to January 2021). A total of 188 students of Dentistry participated in the survey. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results obtained in the research showed that about 19.2% and 3.7% of the students presented emotional crises of anxiety and depression, respectively. Regarding the expectations for the care, there was an increase in the oppressive state and psychic crises (anxiety, stress, anger, and fear), considered influencers in the behavioral cognition of the services to be carried out post-pandemic to be performed after the pandemic. The study identified that the emotional changes acquired during the pandemic outbreak had a negative impact on student performance; however, the depressive symptoms were expressed mainly in the final-year students.
