Abstract

The mandibular fracture is the one that occurs most frequently among all facial fractures, given its prominence in relation to other bones. The complexity of the case is commonly associated with its origin, which may be: car accidents, motorcycle accidents, physical assaults and domestic accidents. Therefore, the present article aims to present the case of a female patient, 46 years old, victim of a domestic accident, resulting in a fracture of the right mandibular body region. Clinically, she presented pain on palpation in the right mandibular region, edema, severe trismus, Glasgow scale 15, that is, she was oriented and in good general condition. The computed tomography showed the fracture in the region of the right mandibular body. Given the clinical picture presented and the imaging data, the patient underwent surgical treatment under general anesthesia for reduction and osteosynthesis of the fractured region with the installation of system 2.0 plates aiming to restore mandibular function. The patient was followed up post-operatively, showing good evolution without morbidities and with adequate mouth opening. After a period of follow-up, she reported mobility of the teeth along the fracture line, requiring extraction. The treatment of choice, especially in cases of fractures involving the jaw framework, aims to reestablish mandibular movements, occlusion and aesthetics, aiming to minimize the physical and psychological impacts of fractures.
