Abstract

Introduction: The search for the ideal, aligned, aligned and increasingly whiter smile has increased significantly, making the search for aesthetic procedures, such as tooth whitening, highly sought after to improve the appearance of the smile in recent decades. Objective: To present, through an integrative review of the literature, the main results on the effectiveness, side effects and limitations of home tooth whitening, after treatment based on hydrogen peroxide, in addition to making a comparative analysis of the protocols with the different concentrations, as well as checking which are the most used commercial brands. Methodology: To carry out this study in question, data and information were collected in electronic databases: PubMED, LILACS and SciELO. Furthermore, the selected studies were published from 2017 to 2023. For the literature review in question, experimental studies, clinical trials and literature reviews were included and there were no restrictions regarding language. Results: The study developed and reviewed, in accordance with the literature, presented impressive results with home tooth whitening based on hydrogen peroxide, regardless of its concentrations, which are 6%, 7.5% and 10%, these whitening gels for have lower concentrations contained in a longer treatment, to the detriment of PH 35%. Furthermore, gels with lower concentrations had lower sensitivity. Conclusion: Home tooth whitening, as it is a less invasive procedure and presents effective aesthetic results even if not immediate due to its lower concentrations compared to in-office whitening, home tooth whitening, based on hydrogen peroxide, has been very popular. used, due to its ease in following the recommended protocols at home and the patient's level of sensitivity and pain apparently being lower. However, the procedure still requires more detailed studies related to the reduction in sensitivity that occurs after clarification, whether at home or in the office, so that the patient can follow the recommended protocols in the best possible way without recurrence of sensitivity during and after the procedure.
