Niveles Reducidos de Melatonina Salival en Personas con Enfermedad Periodontal: Revisión Sistematizada

Resumen

Objetivo: Esta revisión de la literatura tiene como objetivo identificar y resumir los estudios que evaluaron los niveles de melatonina salival en personas con enfermedad periodontal (EP). Metodología: Se realizó una búsqueda sistemática de publicaciones científicas en las siguientes bases de datos: PubMed, SCOPUS, LILACS, EMBASE, BIREME y SciELO, utilizando los términos “Perodontal Disease”, “Melatonin” y “Saliva” en portugués e inglés. Resultados: Predominaron los estudios de casos y controles; los artículos mostraron niveles de evidencia y grados moderados de recomendación que mostraron una disminución en los niveles de melatonina salival en sujetos con EP en comparación con los controles. Conclusiones: La evidencia científica indica que los niveles de melatonina salival están disminuidos en la enfermedad periodontal.
