Resumen

Introducción: Los dientes blancos y alineados se asocian constantemente con la salud bucal, una buena aceptación psicosocial y una mejor autoestima. El blanqueamiento dental es un procedimiento no invasivo con resultados rápidos para el tratamiento de pigmentos intrínsecos y extrínsecos, mediante reacciones químicas redox. Con la creciente demanda estética de dientes más blancos, las alternativas más económicas y de fácil acceso, como el uso de pastas dentales blanqueadoras, son cada vez más buscadas por aquellos interesados ​​en mejorar la apariencia de la sonrisa. Objetivo: Revisar la literatura sobre el uso de pastas dentales blanqueadoras en odontología. Método: Se realizaron búsquedas en bases de datos con las palabras clave “blanqueamiento dental”, “blanqueamiento dental”, “carbón activado”, “dentífrico blanqueador”, 31 artículos publicados entre los años 2016 y 2020.
