Trabajo Nocturno y Melatonina: Implicaciones para la Salud Bucodental

Resumen

Las interrupciones en los ritmos hormonales, el sueño, los patrones de alimentación y la exposición a la luz ocurren durante el trabajo por turnos. El sueño se ve afectado por el trabajo por turnos, en parte debido a la incapacidad de cambiar el ritmo circadiano del sueño para que coincida con las horas de trabajo. Los cambios en el estilo de vida que causan alteraciones del ritmo circadiano pueden tener una influencia negativa en el comportamiento de la salud bucal, como la frecuencia del cepillado y la ingesta de azúcar. A partir de esto, nuestra hipótesis es que los trabajadores nocturnos pueden ser más susceptibles a problemas de salud bucal, como pérdida de dientes, dientes cariados. Con eso, esta mini revisión trata de dilucidar la posible relación entre el trabajo nocturno y la salud bucal, así como si existe una posible correlación entre ambos. Aunque existen pocos estudios que relacionen el trabajo nocturno y sus efectos en la salud bucal, existe fuerte evidencia de que el trabajo nocturno afecta la salud periodontal de la población en diferentes niveles, especialmente cuando se compara con individuos sanos que trabajan períodos regulares distintos al turno de noche, aceptando la hipótesis planteada en el estudio.
