Introduction: The carious lesion is characterized by its multifactorial etiology and several treatment options, according to the degree of evolution. Thus, lasers are useful tools from the prophylaxis and paralysis of white spot lesions (BML) to the removal of carious tissue during cavity preparation, the applicability and advantages of this technique are frequent doubts among professionals. Objective: to elucidate and discuss, through an integrative literature review, the use of high-power laser in cavity preparation, as well as the effectiveness of the use of lasers in the treatment of LMB. Methodology: a literature review was carried out in order to dynamically synthesize knowledge on the proposed topic, in order to transform it into practical application in the dental clinic. The elaboration of the study went through 5 methodological steps: formulation of the question that guided the study, search of the literature to compose the review, critical analysis of the studies found and included in the bibliography, discussion of the results and preparation of the integrative review. Results: The Er,Cr:YSGG laser is the method that generated less discomfort in patients during cavity preparation. However, the clinical time required to remove the carious lesion was longer than the conventional method. As for effectiveness, both techniques proved to be effective. Regarding LMB remineralization, the laser was effective, especially when used in association with a product with a high fluoride content. Conclusion: Lasers are a great alternative to the conventional use of rotary drills, reducing the risk of pulp damage and offering a more atraumatic experience for patients. In addition, it has been shown to be a complementary agent in halting the progression of incipient carious lesions.
