Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is responsible for more than 90% of cases of head and neck cancer. Risk factors include age, sex, smoking, drinking, nutritional factors and immunological factors. The objective of this study is to report a case of SCC located on the lower lip of a 64-year-old male patient, melanoderma, who had not smoked for 15 years, sought a stomatologist with the main complaint of having a mole on his lower lip and who had already sought medical attention. With the biopsy, the diagnosis of SCC was confirmed and sent to the Cancer Hospital of Londrina to an Oncologist. In view of the initial stage of the tumor, its prognosis was good and the treatment consisted of surgical removal. The reported case emphasizes the need for educational clarification to the population about the importance of early cancer diagnosis in order to increase the possibilities of treatment and avoid mutilation to the patient, in addition to the need for adherence and collaboration with the therapeutic plan.
