Abstract

A variety of treatment approaches are available to close diastemas (interdental spaces), including orthodontic treatments, ceramic crowns/veneers, and direct and indirect composite resin restorations. This is a case report that aims to describe the operative steps for performing direct veneers and strategic additions in composite resin in a clinical setting in a Dentistry College. A 23-year-old patient attended the Clinic School with the main complaint of dissatisfaction with his smile. In the dental clinic, a small diastema was found between the central incisors and a massive wear on the incisal edge of tooth 12, in addition to wear on the tips of canines, especially in the tooth 13. The patient was submitted to an aesthetic-functional rehabilitation only by addition with composite resin from the anterior sector. The immediate result was an excellent harmonization of color and shape in the anterior segment, and lateral slippage was also corrected, which now occurred through disocclusion by the canine only. The use of direct treatments for closing anterior diastemas has proved to be an interesting strategy due to the reduced treatment time and cost-benefit, in addition to the immediate result. Thus, the application of direct composite resin veneers was efficient in reestablishing the esthetic and adaptable aspects of the patient's smile.
