Dear Reader,
The Sobral Dental Conference (JOSb) and the Sobral Conference on Oral Medicine, Dental Radiology, and Oral Pathology (JOERP) are annual scientific events which, in their 2024 edition, aimed to address various dental specialties in order to promote the dissemination of new concepts and technologies in Dentistry. This contributed to the technical, scientific, and human development of participants. Additionally, the event offered a space for the presentation of scientific works involving not only Dentistry but also other Health-related fields. The 14th JOSb and the 16th JOERP took place in September 2024 and upheld their commitment to scientific excellence, serving not only the Sobral region but also the state of Ceará and neighboring areas. The event was organized by students from the Federal University of Ceará – Sobral Campus, under the guidance of faculty members from the same institution. The event’s organizational structure included a General Coordination and six committees: Secretariat, Scientific, Financial, Cultural/Social, Infrastructure/Logistics, and Media/Outreach. This edition also included the "Commission of Diverse Knowledge and Health," aiming to integrate other programs from UFC Sobral Campus. The target audience included Dentistry students, dental surgeons, oral health assistants and technicians, dental prosthesis technicians, and radiology technicians. Over three days, the event featured lectures by nationally and locally recognized speakers, symposia, hands-on activities, and workshops covering different dental specialties. Health campaigns aimed at the Sobral community were also carried out, addressing topics such as oral cancer prevention, children's oral health, TMJ disorders and bruxism, and HIV/AIDS prevention. The scientific program allowed students and professionals to submit research, totaling over 200 presentations, divided into poster and oral presentation categories — the latter preferably reserved for students from institutions outside Sobral. These presentations were classified into clinical case reports, scientific research, and literature reviews. The realization of the 14th JOSb & 16th JOERP was only possible thanks to the support of FUNCAP – the Ceará Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development Support. FUNCAP’s financial support was crucial to covering the costs of this major conference, enabling lectures, practical sessions, and social initiatives that significantly expanded the event’s reach and impact, both academically and within the local community. The foundation’s support highlights the importance of valuing science, education, and health promotion as key pillars for the sustainable development of our society.
